Many of us have been wondering how long it was going to take for Apple to start designing their version of a foldable phone and that wait seems to have come to an end. Taiwanese outlet Economic Daily News(via MacRumors) has reported that two different foldable prototypes have passed internal durability tests, but only one may end up being released. These tests took place at the Foxconn factory in Shenzhen, China, and maybe the first indication that Apple is finally ready to enter the folding phone market.
These two prototypes can be compared to devices already on
the market, giving us an idea as to how they may look. One of the prototypes
looks and works similarly to the Samsung Z Flip while the other seems to
function more like the Microsoft surface duo.
It will be interesting to see Apple’s take on foldable phones. We know Apple like to
start using new technology only after it is “mature enough”, which usually
means they are a year or two behind the likes of Samsung and Huawei. But this
also allows them to provide a refined experience be it a late one.
As to when it may be released, we have no idea at the
moment. But it is safe to say a 2022/2023 release may be what Apple is aiming for.
