2020 has been another great year for smartphones and
smartphone innovation. So many great devices have been released this year but
here are some that stand out among them.
10) iPhone 12 Mini
Large screen devices have been the trend for the past few years but not everyone finds that appealing, therefore Apple got a lot of praise when they introduced the iPhone 12 Mini. This phone has mostly the same specs as the standard iPhone 12 except for a smaller screen. Meaning you are getting the fastest mobile chip money can in 2020 in a body that is comfortable to hold and use, hands down the best small phone of 2020.
9) Google Pixel 5
At 6.0’’, the pixel 5 is still considered a small phone for
2020 standards and would be the best small phone if the iPhone 12 mini did not
exist. You get a device that takes the best still photos, with a great Android experience
plus all the feature that comes with the Google assistant making the Google
pixel 5 a great option.
8) Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2
Samsung has shown great commitment to developing folding technology and the Fold 2 shows that is a good decision. The improvement over the Fold 1, which was released just over a year ago has been massive. With a 6.23” outer screen and a huge 7.6” inner screen, the Z Fold 2 is the best big-screen device by far. The beautiful 7.6”,120Hz Amoled screen is one of the best on the market at the moment and takes portability and content consumption to a whole new level. The Snapdragon 865 under the hood ensures a smooth and buttery experience while making demanding tasks like graphic intensive games perform excellently.
7) ROG Phone 3
The ROG phone 3 has a large 6000mAH battery which can last you a full day comfortably. The good thing is that you don’t sacrifice much to gain such stellar battery life except being a bit thicker than other devices in its price range. But the trade-off is worth it. With a 144Hz refresh screen, you get smooth transitions and animations making the phone feel snappy at all times. You can even get more life out of this device if you drop the refresh rate down to 60Hz.
6) ONEPLUS Nord
Smartphones are getting good in every category including the budget space which is a good thing
for consumers. At sub $400, the Oneplus Nord offers almost everything
important that you may need. It comes with a large 6.7” 90Hz screen, quad rear
camera setup, double front camera setup, 4100mah battery, and a Snapdragon 765G processor which isn’t a flagship, but performs very well.
5) Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra
This device makes any other device in the S20 family look
less appealing in comparison. With flagship-grade specs from top to bottom and
a far more reasonable price, the only reason you would get any other S20 device
over the FE would be if you wanted a glass back. But other than that, at $699,
this is a no brainer.
2) iPhone 12 Pro Max
When it comes to camera performance the two most important things are picture and video, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max does the best job when considering these fields. Yes, other devices may take better pictures than this device but not when it comes to video, especially with the addition of Dolby vision. Performance is not an issue as the A14 chip delivers top-notch performance in everyday tasks as well as in gaming.
1) Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra
Every year the Note is Samsung's way of showing the world the best of their smartphone technology with the Note having all the bells
and whistles the company can provide, and it turns it is the best overall
package anyone could provide this year. With a flagship processor, big battery,
great cameras, stylus, beautiful finish, and the best screen in the business,
it's hard to look past Note 20 Ultra. With great improvements to the already
steller stylus, the Note provides the best smartphone experience out there.
Honorable Mentions.
This phone has everything and would have been an easy recommendation to anyone looking for a flagship device, except it doesn't have Google services. If you can do without Google services, then there are few devices that compare to this one.
LG Wing
Smartphones look the same for the most part so it is exciting
to see OEM's trying out new form factors that open up new ways to use our
smartphones. LG have tried many designs but the LG wing is one of the most
promising yet. You may think it's just another rectangular slap of glass until
It is swiveled to unveil a 3.9” hidden screen turning your phone into a T-shaped mechanism,
unlocking a different level of versatility. Worth a look if you want a different kind of experience to what we are used to.
