Samsung’s unpacked event has finally taken place with a number of brilliant but expected announcements from the new Galaxy buds to the new Fold. Numerous leaks prior to this event meant we knew most of what was going to be announced but that did not take away from the excitement. Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold 2, the successor to the Galaxy Fold released last year. The Fold received a lukewarm reception from people which was to be expected due to how new the whole technology of that device was. But after a year, the technology has been better implemented by Samsung.
When it comes to specs, the Z Fold 2 has all the bells and whistles expected from a device that is expected to cost around the same price of the first fold when it came out($1,980//AU$2,900).
- Stainless steel frame
- Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black colors
- 7.6-inch display with Ultra-Thin Glass and a 6.2-inch external display
- 120Hz refresh rate OLED screen(Internal display)
- 6mm thick
- Snapdragon 865 Plus
- 5G Compatibility
The small external screen on the first Fold was one of the main points of the device making it difficult to do anything meaningful when closed. The new 6.2-inch external display means that the device can be used perfectly well when closed.
Flex mood which was first introduced on the Z flip has been
brought over to the Fold 2 as well allowing it to be used halfway-opened and
also set up on any flat surface. The device has also been made thinner at 6mm making it easier to fit in the pocket. The re-engineered hinge should make it more durable and firm. Dust
getting into the holes of the first fold was a major problem. But Samsung is
confident that the new feature they are calling “a sweeper” will help fix that.
Applying too much pressure on this screen is still not recommended because even though it uses ultra-thin glass, it still isn’t as durable as traditional glass. Pre-order for this device starts on the 1st of September but you can Pre-register now.
